Join us at the Westin Michigan Avenue in Chicago on October 31st!
CLS’ Christian Legal Aid (CLA) program engages and equips lawyers in providing justice for the poor with the love of Christ. The Christian Legal Aid Summit provides CLA staff and volunteers from around the country the opportunity to learn, support, and be a blessing to each other as we grow in our ability to serve those in need. Everyone is welcome, including CLA leaders, staff attorneys, volunteer attorneys, board members, non-attorneys who work with legal aid clinics, and anyone interested in exploring Christian Legal Aid. Join us for a great time of learning and fellowship!
Registration Note:
To register for only the Legal Aid Summit (without the main CLS conference), you must choose the "Pre-conference / Featured Events Only" option on the main registration page. The cost of the Summit alone is only $115.
To register for both the Legal Aid Summit and the main CLS conference, choose "Attorney," "Non-Attorney," or "Law Student".
Keynote Speaker: Chuck Hogren
"The Reluctant Defender"
Chuck founded Cabrini Green Legal Aid (CGLA), the first Christian Legal Aid clinic in the United States, in 1973. He was first inspired to do legal aid while volunteering in a church youth group in the heart of a Chicago housing project and seeing the desperate need of the families in poverty. An initial agreement with his pastor to serve for one year turned into a 24-year career of serving thousands of people no one else was willing to serve. His compassionate service was documented in The Reluctant Defender: A Big-City Attorney Defends Desperate People (Tyndale 1978). Come hear Chuck share about God's calling to start CGLA and serve clients in desperate situations.
