Description:
Community Legal Services (CommLegal) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that advocates on behalf of utility customers before the California Public Utilities Commission. Our mission is to increase the affordability, accountability, and accessibility of essential public services. We intervene in proceedings that address fundamental needs within modern society, such as energy, water, telecommunications, and transportation.
Case subject matters include utility operations and budgets, EV adoption and transportation electrification programs, broadband infrastructure deployment to address the Digital Divide, and implementing statutory mandates regarding affordability and equity.
CommLegal strongly supports a healthy and flexible work/life balance, and offers remote work positions with modest and attainable billable-hour targets, an unlimited paid leave policy, competitive salaries, and generous bonuses.
Both full-time and part-time positions are available.
CommLegal seeks senior and staff level attorneys with experience in administrative law, preferably utilities regulation. The majority of the job entails analyzing written applications and evidence, issuing data requests and reviewing responses, and drafting written testimony and recommendations.
This position is ideal for an attorney looking to handle a light case load of their own, while providing moderate support to other staff attorneys.
Preferred candidates will have 3-5 years of relevant experience, very strong legal writing and analysis skills, and work well independently. Attorneys with higher experience levels are strongly encouraged to apply. Exceptional candidates with lower levels of experience may also be considered and can be trained.
Bar licensure from any US state or the District of Columbia is required, and relocation is not necessary. Most work will be performed remotely, however some occasional travel may be necessary for hearings.
Please send your resume and a writing sample to admin@commlegal.org, with subject line: “Utility Regulation Attorney” and indicate your interest in “Full Time”, “Part Time” or both.
