BWA and 21Wilberforce Strategic Partnership
21Wilberforce Global Freedom Center (21Wilberforce) is a US non-profit led by Christian human rights
advocates who believe that every man and woman is created in God’s image, has freedom of religion, with
inherent dignity and equal and inalienable rights. Our vision is that all people can exercise their right to
freedom of religion, belief, and conscience within a broader context of respect for freedom, peace, and
human rights. We equip the church to support persecuted communities, challenge repression, pursue peace,
and expand freedom of religion and belief for everyone.

Founded in 2014, 21Wilberforce took its name from a 19th century British parliamentarian William
Wilberforce who iden)fied the slave trade as the single greatest violation of human rights. Responding to
this seemingly impossible challenge, he led a successful abolition movement using a “top-down, bottom-up”
strategy featuring collaborative partnerships, grassroots empowerment, and policy campaigns. Today,
21Wilberforce is employing this powerful model to mobilize grassroots networks through collaborative
technologies to aid the persecuted and advance freedom worldwide. For more information, visit
www.21wilberforce.org.

21Wilberforce’s office is in Falls Church, Virginia, with easy access to Washington, DC.

In 2020, 21Wilberforce entered into a strategic partnership with the BWA, a Christian World Communion
that draws upon 400 years of shared Baptist history and has more than 250 member bodies in 130 countries
and territories representing over 176,000 churches and 51 million Baptists.

Structured with the BWA as 21 Wilberforce’s sole member, the two organizations, both 501 c3 bodies, work
as a strategic global partnership, with 21Wilberforce playing a prominent and permanent role in the life of
BWA, as the arm helping the BWA address its longstanding commitment to religious freedom for all persons
and to maintain this commitment as a core program initiative.

The Baptist World Alliance (BWA)’s mission is to ‘Network the Baptist Family to Impact the World for Christ’.
The BWA vision, as a global movement of Baptists sharing a common confession of faith in Jesus
Christ bonded together by God’s love, is to support, encourage and strengthen one another while
proclaiming and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit before a lost and hurting world.
