POSITION SUMMARY:
The DOJ-Accredited Immigration Representative will play a critical role in World Relief Western WA’s Immigration Legal Services (ILS) team.  The primary role of the DOJ-Accredited Immigration Representative will be to advise and represent clients with our priority legal services, which may include naturalization, adjustments of status, parole, temporary protected status, USCIS interviews, document renewals, family immigration petitions, and asylum.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Client services:

  • Provide substantive legal screening to determine clients’ benefit eligibility
  • Explain immigration benefits and advise clients on best actions to take for their specific case
  • Assist clients with completing applications for immigration benefits
  • Represent clients before USCIS as a primary legal advocate for assigned caseload, including filing applications, and corresponding with USCIS, such as Requests for Evidence (RFE)
  • Perform factual and legal research for caseload; conduct FOIA requests and criminal record requests as appropriate
  • Communicate clearly with clients to gather supporting documents and evidence, and about all matters related to their immigration situation

Administration

  • Maintain up-to-date records of client data and case progress in LawLogix database
  • Ensure physical and electronic case files are accurate and up-to-date with most recent client documents and USCIS notices
  • Respond promptly to client emails and phone calls regarding their cases and submit inquiries on case status to Department of State (DOS) and USCIS, as needed

Training, outreach & community education

  • Attend relevant trainings to promote an ever-growing knowledge of immigration law
  • Stay up-to-date on significant policies, laws and trends in immigration law
  • Periodically participate in community and church education events and outreach to the immigrant community
  • Make referrals both internally and externally, as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Bilingual in Spanish, or another common immigrant language, and English highly desired
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from a wide range of cultural, racial, religious and language backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a varied and demanding caseload, including excellent time-management, priority-setting, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, especially Outlook, Excel & Word
  • Ideal candidate will have previous Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA)/Department of Justice (DOJ) accredited representative status at a non-profit organization or enough relevant training and experience in immigration and naturalization law to be able to immediately apply for accreditation

Salary or salary range: $28.60 – $29.45/hr
