Why Gather?

Law Student Ministries (LSM) seeks to establish a Christian community across all fifty states and on every law school campus.

“I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields!

They are ripe for harvest.”

Our goals are simple:

  1. To nurture and encourage Christian law students by providing mentors and resources aimed at fostering spiritual growth, compassionate outreach, and the integration of faith and practice.
  2. To establish and maintain vibrant witnessing communities of law students on every law school campus in the nation and at key Christian colleges.

To that end, LSM serves law students across 150+ campuses — scattered among national CLS chapters and local Christian fellowships — providing the spiritual, material, and legal resources for students to not only exist on-campus, but also better serve their classmates. While some students have a robust Christian community and need less help, others often find themselves surrounded by a host of administrators, professors, and student board members who actively disparage or prevent the cultivation of a Christian presence on-campus. Wherever you are, we are here to help!

Alas, the investment you make on your campus to START or STRENGTHEN a CLS chapter is labor that others have begun or will eventually enter into.

For here the saying holds true, “One sows and another reaps.” I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.

(John 4:37-38)

Commenting on these verses, Andreas Köstenberger explains that a “fruitful harvest often is contingent on the labors of others.” This means that LSM is not just work done today; it is the tilling of the field for a future harvest. A work done for those — like many of you — who will enter law school with a desire to find a place to grow closer to God and build sanctified habits, in community with others. For them you labor and create a place to reap and sow. For them you gather and invest in a work that yields its respective rewards (see 1 Corinthians 3:8). An awesome work that we invite you all to join!
