Case Description
The Center is representing Gateway Pregnancy Center, a small, gospel-focused ministry that has served pregnant women in New Jersey for decades. The New Jersey AG’s office wrongly badgered Gateway to register as a charity when, instead, Gateway should have been allowed to continue enjoying the religious exemption that clearly applies to it, and then hit Gateway with a burdensome subpoena. The Center, alongside local counsel, has written a letter to the AG’s office asking it to quash the subpoena and to apply the religious charity registration exemption to Gateway based on the plain language of the state statute to avoid significant First Amendment violations.
