Attorney & Law Student Ministries Director

Christian Legal Society (CLS) is a fellowship of Christians dedicated to serving Jesus Christ through the practice of law (Attorney Ministries), through the defense of religious freedom and life (the Center for Law and Religious Freedom), by nurturing and encouraging Christian law students (Law Student Ministries), and by providing Christian legal aid to the poor and needy (Christian Legal Aid). These are the four pillars by which CLS serves Christians and society in the field of law.

CLS is seeking an Attorney & Law Student Ministries Director for our headquarters in Springfield, Virginia. The position will be responsible for the high-level management and coordination of these two ministries. The individual in this role will manage the member association and the volunteer network of attorney and law student chapters. Various duties include handling membership correspondence and calls; being responsible for chapter relationships and management; coordinating membership mailings and renewals; reviewing and contributing to publications; helping plan and participate in national and regional conferences; and helping maintain the membership database. Position requires occasional travel and speaking.

The position reports to and works closely with the CEO, as well as all other department heads, to promote the mission of CLS. The position will have at least two people reporting to them, one from each of Attorney Ministries (the membership coordinator) and Law Student Ministries (the law student coordinator).

The position is a ministry position, not a legal position, despite the desire to have someone with legal experience. The ideal candidate will be gregarious, friendly, and a people person, but also a detail person, who cares about getting the data right when it comes to events and database items. The ideal candidate will have at least a few years of professional experience and will be proficient with Microsoft Office. A law degree and legal experience is preferred. The individual must have a heart for Christians in the legal field. Experience with nonprofit associations and boards is a plus, as is knowledge of or experience with association management software/databases.

Interested parties should send a cover letter, three references, and a resume to Salary commensurate with experience plus medical, dental, life, and 403(b) benefits. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
