Misconception #1: “There are already enough Christian attorneys volunteering—they don’t need me.”
Truth: “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” Luke 10:2. Christian Legal Aid organizations across the country are serving more people than ever—but many are stretched thin and forced to turn clients away due to a lack of volunteers. Your legal skills, no matter how much time you can give, are urgently needed. Whether you can help once a month or take on a case, your willingness to serve can bring hope, dignity, and justice to someone in need. You are uniquely positioned and called to make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ. Learn more about volunteering here!
Misconception #2: “I’m not experienced enough to help.”
Truth: You don’t need to be an expert to make a difference. Whether you’re a law student, a new attorney, or a seasoned professional unfamiliar with a particular area of law, there’s room for you to grow and contribute. Many clients simply need help understanding forms, navigating court procedures, or feeling confident that someone is walking alongside them. With training and support, you can be that person.
Misconception #3: “I don’t have enough time.”
Truth: Many legal aid organizations offer flexible opportunities—from one-time clinics to ongoing roles. An hour a month can make a big impact.
Misconception #4: “There’s no Christian Legal Aid in my community—and starting one is too hard.”
Truth: Starting a Christian Legal Aid organization may feel daunting, but there are proven models, step-by-step resources, and a nationwide network ready to walk with you. Whether you envision a simple monthly clinic or a fully staffed legal ministry, we’re here to help you take the first step and will continue to help sustain you.
Misconception #5: “Christian Legal Aid only serves Christians.”
Truth: Christian Legal Aid organizations serve everyone—regardless of faith, background, or beliefs. While our staff and volunteers are inspired by their love for Christ, our commitment is to provide compassionate, high-quality legal help to all who need it. Justice and dignity are for everyone.
Misconception #6: “Christian Legal Aid serves criminals or people trying to avoid the consequences of their bad choices.”
Truth: Christian Legal Aid typically focuses on civil legal issues that impact low-income and vulnerable individuals such as housing law, family law, and immigration. But even when legal issues arise from personal mistakes, everyone deserves access to legal paths forward. We believe in justice and grace. Christian Legal Aid reflects that truth–offering legal help with compassion, dignity, and the belief that no one is beyond redemption. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23.
Misconception #7: “There’s no real difference between volunteering for a Christian Legal Aid and a general legal aid organization.”
Truth: While all legal aid work is important, Christian Legal Aid offers a unique opportunity to serve both the legal and spiritual needs of clients. Volunteers can pray with clients, offer encouragement rooted in faith, and walk alongside them in ways that reflect the love and compassion of Christ. It’s not just about resolving legal issues—it’s about restoring hope, dignity, and wholeness through justice and grace.
Misconception #8: “Christian Legal Aid clinics are run by well-off attorneys who don’t need my charitable donations or support.”
Truth: Most Christian Legal Aid organizations are grassroots ministries—often operating with volunteers, minimal staff, tight budgets, and a deep reliance on community support. Many are led by attorneys who have left higher-paying jobs or are working sacrificially to serve the underserved. Your gift goes to things like keeping the doors open for someone facing eviction, fleeing abuse, or seeking safety and justice. Every dollar helps extend Christ’s love through legal help to those who need it most.
